Installing Module in Joomla 3.0 on Ubuntu php5

I went to install the module in Joomla 3 and get the msg. DateTime::__construct() [datetime.–construct]: Failed to parse time string (jerror) at position 0 (j): The timezone could not be found in the database
I have followed instrucions on http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p=3001165
edited /etc/php5/apache2/ php.ini and added timezone. I restarted apache
I saw another posted that mentioned there could be a type on the path someone in php.ini but i do not see any bad paths. Anyone have any thoughts. I am brand new to Joomla and really excited about it. Wish I had more php knowledge. Thanks to anyone who can help
