I faced the same problem when trying to upload pdf documents using easy file upload. And here is the information about the server and php.

PHP Version: 5.2.5.
FILEINFO_MIME_TYPE is NOT defined.
mime_content_type doesn’t exist.
This is a NON-Windows OS: Linux.
escapeshellarg is callable.
exec doesn’t exist.
shell_exec doesn’t exist.
