@polk. Thanks for posting. It is not normal behavior to have any errors during installation or otherwise. It would have been advantageous if you have provided either a screenshot or copy/paste of the error you encountered. So, that I can see what the problem is.
However, I have installed the component on my systems that are Joomla 2.5 and PHP 5.3, so I know it works. But if there is an issue, it would be good for you to provide me with the error. Either that or you can give me a temporary admin login and I will try to install it myself and see the error directly on your system.
As for the mime info, that is not important. It talks about your mime detection functions on your server. Could you please let me know what database and version your server uses?
